A three-day training on how to start and lead work that matters, thriving through uncertainty.

Learn how to create spaces which inspire others to bring their ideas, energy and potential.

Develop your knowledge and skills as a leader capable of hosting conversations that matter.

Bring new inspiration, energy and practical approaches back to your business and community.

The Art of Hosting is an approach to working and collaborating in ways that support participation, well-being and wise action.

It has inspired a world-wide network and community of practitioners that is spreading a new kind of leadership (find out more at The Art of Hosting website)

Over three days, we’ll learn and practice its core principles and processes.

We’ll become a learning community,  practicing self-management and co-creation.

Through this training you will:

  • Learn how to apply tools like Open Space, World Cafe and Storytelling to your work.

  • Develop your skills and confidence by leading sessions and hosting conversations.

  • Deepen your self-understanding and your ability to manage difficulty.

  • Connect to a like-minded community of leaders and practitioners.

  • Get help on your projects, reflect on your learning, find inspiration.

How to apply

We’re looking for around 25 inspired people to join us on this training.

You’ll need to be committed to your personal development, have an appetite for learning (about yourself, others and the world) and be working in a business, community project or startup (or in the process of starting).

You’ll be looking for ways to bring more creativity and connection into your work, and keen to bring whatever you learn, back to the people you work with.

Once we’ve recruited our core group, we’ll set the dates for the programme and send details of how to confirm your place.

Costs will be around £600 per person for a non-residential place, and depending on numbers, we may be able to offer a residential option.

The programme will be held in a venue within 30 minutes drive of Brighton.

Final costs, dates and venue details will be confirmed when we know the group size and availability.

Why are we doing this?

The question that prompted this training is:

“How do we build businesses and communities where everyone can lead, to create a city where everyone feels they matter and belong?”

Why this question? Because we believe everyone is capable of leading the change that they and their community need.

We see leadership not as a role, but as a behavioural competency, that can be practiced and developed. It’s something we learn how to do ourselves, but can only be done with each other.

We also believe that we’re living in a time where people are becoming increasingly clear on the change they want to see.

As we talk of uncertainty, failing leadership models, disenfranchised communities and growing pressure on our resources, it’s easy to feel sadness or fear, and for this to drive what we do.

But we believe that humanity is fundamentally wired for creativity, compassion and connection, and that these motivations are more powerful and successful.

By sharing these skills and knowledge, and by developing a growing community of practitioners, we hope to develop more capacity for positive change, right here.

So we’ll use our question as a lens through which we’ll learn and practice new skills and ideas, and to focus our efforts beyond this training.
