A bit of context

Since the first meetings of practitioners of this Art – which came to be called the Art of Hosting – took place in an Open Space Village at Borl Castle in Slovenia in 2001, meetings like the one we’re inviting you to have taken place all over the world.

And why will this meeting be so special?

Because it marks the 10th anniversary of the first international meeting of practitioners of the Art of Hosting held in the Global South!

In 2016, the international Art of Hosting community gathered in Brazil to take another turn in the evolutionary spiral of this practice, inaugurating what we now affectionately call AoH Mates (journey partners, friends, bros).
At the time, in addition to the desire to make these international meetings more inclusive, we realised, on revisiting the history of Art of Hosting, that this movement also represented a return to its ancestral origins.

It was in 1999 that Toke Møller – one of the founders of the practice – was invited to “teach” his way of doing World Café and other participatory methodologies to a Pioneers of Change group in Santa Cruz, USA. His response: “I’ll only go if my mates go too.”

Since then, AoH Mates have taken place in Colombia (2017), Costa Rica (2020), Argentina (2022) and Paraguay (2024).

Now it’s time to return to Brazil!
