What is it based on?

“How might we organize differently if we understood how Life organizes?” (Margaret Wheatley)

The Art of Hosting takes its inspiration from complexity science and a living systems approach.  In essence it is based on how nature operates and what helps human systems to function at their highest level.

In addition we work with models that help us navigate emergent space, like the chaordic path developed by Dee Hock in creating the VISA card, and like the complex adaptive systems model first developed inside IBM by Dave Snowden.

While each Art of Hosting practitioner uses the same suite of participatory processes, each brings their own expertise and fields of interest. Some of us combine it with Theory U, some with narrative, some with action learning, and so on.  As a practitioner community, we are consistently sharing our learning with each other to develop and extend our capacity and our understanding of how to become skillful working together on conversations that matter.
